Your agriculture equipment, from tractors to balers, is there to help you get your work done quickly and efficiently, but you have to be careful with it. These are large machines and they can do a lot of harm if you’re reckless. As a responsible agricultural equipment operator, you’ll want to ensure that you’re following the best safety practices when it comes to using your farm machinery.

Inspect Your Machines

You should always perform a daily inspection of your agricultural equipment so that you know it functions properly. Test the hydraulics and check the engine fluids to make sure they’re clean and topped off. Look over the tires or tracks to check for any signs of malfunction or damage that need to be repaired.

Wear the Right Attire

Your clothing, if it’s too loose or drapey, could get caught in the machine and seriously injure you. Wear close-fitting pants and a long-sleeved shirt, with riding gloves and boots and tie long hair up and out of the way. Goggles may be useful if you have an open cab to protect your eyes.

Remain Sober & Alert

Finally, it’s important that you only operate your agricultural machinery when you’re awake and sober so that you can maintain your focus. Remain vigilant and alert anyone if you’re going to be working in their area on your machine so that they can stay out of your way.
